Data Transformation Modeller
This section will discuss the data transformation modeller tool created for the Integration Playbook which is available to be downloaded from Chocolateyon the below URL.
The aim of the tool is to tackle the challenge of understanding the requirements and performing the analysis for transforming data between systems.
There are many tools out there to help you implement the mapping of data either in code or with visual mappers and templates. Some examples include:
- BizTalk Maps
- Liquid Templates
- Custom Code
These are implementation technologies but they dont address the core problem that is when you are a developer or analyst working to identify the requirements for the transformation how do you collaborate with stakeholders from various systems to workout which fields map to what and how do you record the documentation for these mappings in an effective way which can be easily communicated to a developer who can then implement those mappings.
I often find on projects that if you break it down the implementation of the data transformation is 20% of the effort and 80% is spent on working out what those mappings should be. This tool aims to help you tackle the 80% of the problem. The tools mentioned above will help you tackle the 20% thats left.
The sub sections to this page will help you to get up and running.
